Lansdowne Auto Centre

The first time I used Landsdowne Auto Centre [LAC for short :) ] they did an effective job of tuning my wife's Prius, but her starter battery failed soon after and instead of servicing it by buying the least expensive one they installed a premium battery without asking me first. I was annoyed at the extra cost, but the problem was fixed. I decided to live with the misunderstanding... Afterwards, I thought I'd install an aftermarket back-up camera on the car because of its well-known blindspots. Mechanic Gary went online with me and selected a wireless camera at the online Walmart site he recommended. He told me to order that one and he'd install it no problem. But when it came, it was unsuited for a hatchback because it attaches to the license plate mounted on the hatch, but needs an electric connection to the brakes which are mounted on the frame. So they tried to charge me triple the labour cost for rewiring the car's hatch to connect the camera to the brake lights. At first Gary claimed they'd already disassembled the car. They hadn't. I picked up the car and camera and went elsewhere. Gary, I find, gets pretty rude about assuming responsibility for customer dissatisfaction. (AS I mentioned, he had also been a bit rude about the premium battery previously). I live in the neighbourhood but I won't be using them again. A nearby chain does most of what they do and they do it cheaper, faster and with less attitude.

I brought my car to Lansdowne Auto in June to find out what was wrong with it. They called me and said they couldn't find the problem but my car needed $1200 of maintenance. A lot of money! Me being stupid thought well maybe it just needs some TLC .... after the job they told me bring it back if it keeps being a problem. Well, a day later I'm back....engine light still going on and the car is driving just as terrible. They say it will cost another $150 or more to look at my car again? What?! Just charged me to go thru my car and then charged me a whole wack of money and my car is still broke but it will cost me to have you look at it again? He kept suggesting it might be coils which he quoted as $400-$500 each. Funny how he never checked that to start with. Fast forward to me suffering with a car that is not running well at all for over 3 mnths trying to save up money to get it to my regular auto shop which isn't nearby so my car had to get towed there when it wouldn't start one day. Interestingly, not only did they (my reg mechanics) find the problem right away (starter and fuel injectors, and oh, they don't charge a cent for the estimates!) but they said there was NO evidence anyone had done any work or maintenance in my engine all. I will say two of the things Lansdowne did do was windshield wipers and two second hand tires put onto my rims. Not too costly for that so what the rest of the money went too, well, not my engine it doesn't seem! They (Lansdowne Auto) said they did some flushing and refilling of fluids but my mechanics said that still does not account for the excessive amount I was charged. Finally, I have found out from a couple different mechanics - the coils would only have been $100 each - so I think not only did Lansdowne rip me off, but they were setting me up to do it a second time! Beware this place, and perhaps especially if you are a female!
