Landmark Auto Sales Ltd

I bought an SUV from landmark auto. I had driven it a total of 3 hours and the service engine soon light came on. I called told them I was on my way to a wedding on the mainland and I wasn't happy that I had to deal with this after only a few hours of driving. I told them I was nervous about driving it. The person I was speaking with was the owners son Cody. He said to drive it and not worry, his girlfriend has been driving with her light on for nearly a year. First of all I am a paying customer not your girlfriend and second why the hell haven't you stressed to your girlfriend the importance of getting the car fixed. He said to bring it in when I got back and they would look at it but I still had to pay the discounted labour of 70 bucks an hour. I had driven the 5000 dollar vehicle for 3 hours max and this was his reply. I took it to a mechanic I trusted after that. He ran scans and told me that the light had been on prior to my purchase and they had reset it without fixing the problem. A gas leak that cost me 500 bucks to fix. I spent another 400 dollars replacing belts they neglected to change before selling the vehicle. Alternator belt was badly cracked. Timing belt needed replacing another 1000 dollars. The vehicle makes a rattling noise above 50 km an hour. It's funny that when I test drove it I was only allowed to go a few blocks in heavy traffic. This establishment will not let you test drive without them being present in the vehicle with you or allow you to take it to the highway,. I find this strange considering that every other place I test drove cars I was allowed to take the vehice without a babysitter the only requirement being that I take no longer than 20 min and they photographed my license. I believe it was because they worried about me hearing the noise and or that the service light would come back on if I drove it too long. I understand that it's buyer beware when purchase a vehicle second hand but is a place of business that intentionally turned off the engine light and assured me in writing that all belts had been changed, oil, brakes, engine, etc was in good working condition. They even gave me forms stating this was true. I bought from a dealership because I thought this sort of thing would be way less likely to happen. I was wrong. I will NEVER purchase anything from this business again. On top of all that the sales person I dealt with was quite rude and seemed annoyed when I was asking him questions about the car. My advice is save yourself the hassle of buying a car from these guys. You will probably just be throwing away your money. Go to a place more reputable like Howie's car corral.
